The season finale ofThis Is Usaired tonight, and, true to form,it was gut-wrenching.
We opened with Jack, who,if you remember fromlast week's episode,is drunk and driving two hours to win over Rebecca at her show. Before we find out whether he makes it or not,a quick flashback sheds more light on Jack and Rebecca's past.Apparently,he was a (beardless) Vietnam War veteran turned mechanic looking to make ends meet. She was a sad rich girl whose friends didn't understand her music career. An older woman named Mrs.Peabody offers to set Jack up with a girl she knows after realizing he's lonely AF.And once Rebecca's friends realize she doesn't have a date to an upcoming wedding, they offer to do the same.So is this how Jack and Rebecca meet?!(We'll answer that in a bit.)
Also in the flashback,we learn that young Jack still lives with his parents. His father (who looks a lot like Michael Lohan,no?) thinks he's a failure and shames him for not having a "real job." (This isn't surprising. If you remember from earlier episodes,Jack's father, well, sucks.) Jack and a friend have dreams of opening up a mechanic shop, but they don't have enough money.Jack thinks they can earn some fast cash by playing high-stakes poker, but that sounds like (and turns out to be) a terrible idea.Jack wins $1,500 after playing one hand of poker, but the loan shark who lost his cash sends a minion to beat up Jack and steal back the money. This leads to a very melodramatic monologue from Jack about how being a "good guy" has gotten him nowhere.(Sorry, dude, but you shouldn't want a reward for being a good person.)He then says some Bane-from-Batmanshit about how he's going to get his money backone way or another. He's bad now!
Eh,not really.Young Jack attempts to rob some sad, older bartender, but he gets distracted by a beautiful woman singing in the bar: young Rebecca. As it turns out, this was the night of Rebecca's blind date.(After getting rejected from a record company, she needed some cheering up.女孩,same.) But the guy her friends set her up with was a total drag,so she ditched him mid-dinner (savage) to go sing at a bar.The same bar Jack was trying to rob!(Oddly enough, this happened the same night Jack was supposed to have his Mrs.Peabody–assisted blind date.) So,yes, this is how Jack and Rebecca met—but in trueThis Is Usw88手机版登录fashion,it's complicated as hell.
Back to the present day, though.Jack arrives at Rebecca's venue and immediately begins knocking back drinks.Rebecca is backstage, filled with nerves.Ben tries to comfort Rebecca and ends up trying tokissher, which causes her to storm out of backstage and call Jack (who, remember,is at the venue).Jack gets more and more wasted and tries to find Rebecca backstage. He doesn't find her,but he does find Ben,who accidentally reveals that he "crossed the line" with Rebecca.Naturally, drunk Jack doesn't take this too well: Rebecca walks in the room just in time to watch Jack sock Ben in the face.
Rebecca leaves the venue to drive Jack home.Rebecca doesn't want to fight while Jack is drunk, but a knock-down,drag-out fight ensues.Rebecca says some right-on things about how Jack probably started drinking only because something good (the band) happened to her.She says that she has no life (the kids are teenagers;Jack is never home) and accuses Jack of not being supportive of her trying tohaveone.Because Jack is drunk and dumb,he says he's only pissed because she lied about Ben and that the family should've been fulfilling enough for her (boy, bye).Rebecca asks Jack why he loves her,but he can't give an answer (again: drunk and dumb). She goes to bed.He remains drunk and dumb.
