I was working on a TV segment on how to get Michelle Obama's style, but it just got cancelled! So,instead of just tossing all the great style tips and shopping finds,I figured that there was no better place to share it all than here!
When I was prepping the piece for TV,I wanted to make sure that I was inspired by her style and not copying it exactly, because while imitationisthe best form of flattery, total copy-catting is a definite DON'T.So,I came up with four Michelle O-inspired style tricks that we can all mix in to our everyday ensembles:
1.Belt Your Dress
We can always find Michelle with a belt--over a dress or a top with a skirt.Bottom line: she knows how to make the most of her shape.

2.Clash Your Shoes with Your Outfit
Michelle takes a mini-w88手机版登录fashion risk (and adds her own flair) by often mismatching her shoes to the rest of her outfit. At the Inaugural Kids' Concert (pictured above) she wore a dark green pump with blue and yellow and at her meeting with the Bush's at the White House, she paired red pumps with an orange shift.

__ 3.Throw a Cardigan Over Everything__
Michelle definitely understands the first-lady-pulled-togetherness and therefore, can always be found with a cardigan over her dress or top of choice.See top photo for example.
4.Bright Color is Better for TV
I had a major moment with the J.Crew look that their stylists put together exclusively forGlamourto match the feeling of the exclusive look they made for Mrs.O (which,my inside sources have told me,they're recreating for the Fall '09 line!).I'm obsessed with they way that J.Crew clashes color and love that Michelle and her daughters Sasha and Malia (who,in my opinion, stole the show) can carry it off.
And finally, here she is in her famous Jason Wu gown, worn to the Inaugural Ball...
I love Michelle's w88手机版登录fashion risks and hope that she doesn't fall into the "too political conservative" look of past first ladies. My advice?如果它看起来mother-of-the-brideish,just say no!
