So,my heart leapt into my throat when I heard that TMZ asked Matt LeBlanc if he would ever consider aFriendsreunion. His response was."I wish...I could use the money." While I don't know about that (though the gang was raking it in per episode back in the day),I would give up watching every city of theReal Housewivesif it made my favorite friends get back together.
And I'm not talking a "where they are 10 years later" type of show (you know, the type of thing forSeinfeldthatCurb Your Enthusiasmspoofed).I would love the cast to come together for one night and air their favorite clips, dish out some never before heard behind the scenes stories and talk about how the characters they played still influence them to this day--because they definitely still impact me.
I really don't think there have been a group of friends on TV quite like Rachel,Ross,Monica,Joey,Phoebe and Chandler. We all have a little bit of them in each in us.Hasn't everyone been the Monica or the Chandler of your relationship at some point - or experienced a Ross "we were on a break" confusion in another? In my mind, what madeFriendswork was how even though it was a sitcom with a laugh track,it really committed to the characters and story lines in the way that a drama would. When Monica and Rachel lost their big apartment to guys' tiny one - they really switched for several episodes. When Monica lost her job - it took her a long time to get back on her feet. And Ross and Rachel were on a break for like the whole series before they finally got back together.I'm just feeling a bit nostalgic today so here is what I learned from each of the guys onFriends.
Rachel - Don't Judge a Book By a Cover.
*Sure she was spoiled and liked to shop (who doesn't?) but Rachel Green was so much more than that. She started out as waitress and ended with her dream job at Ralph Lauren.*
Plus, she wasn't an overnight success - she had tons of missteps along the way--like accidentally starting a rumor that she made out with Ralph--but who hasn't put their foot in their mouth at work?
__Chandler - Humor Makes Everything Less Uncomfortable!__
This was the guy that couldn'tbemore sarcastic! He also has three nipples,a transvestite mom and once had to spend Thanksgiving in a box to make Joey forgive him for stealing his girlfriend!
Humor was his way of deflecting—especially before he married Monica and just could never commit to any other girl.Which,by the way,Chandler also taught me that even the most anti-relationship guy will settle down when he meets his soul mate.
Joey - A Little Oblivion Can Go a Long Way.
Joey wasn't the sharpest but he was the most endearing. With his infamous "How YOU doing" pick-up line, the way he really was passionate about sandwiches and didn't realize that insulting the writers ofDays of Our Livesin the press would get him killed off the show - proved it's the little things in life, right?
You just wanted to see the world through his eyes for the day because despite all the ladies he wooed and troubles he had breaking into showbiz,it never seemed to get him down!
Phoebe - Being Unabashedly Yourself is the Best Way to Be.
