Last night's episode ofThe Cityhad me on the edge of my couch, wondering what would come out of Mean Boss Lady Kelly Cutrone's mouth when she met Whitney's new "friends" for the first time (full disclosure: I know Kelly and she's kinda awesome). But even I wasn't expecting what went down...
"Are you okay?" Kelly asked Allie Crandell,a complete stranger, within the first five minutes of ever laying eyes on her."You just seem so skinny." Allie, who models for a living and does look a wee bit on the scrawny side,is completely offended. In fact, she makes a quit exit rather than have to deal with the inquiring mind of the People's Revolution boss (who again, truth be told, spends an awful lot of time with models and probably knows danger signs when she sees them).I'm not sure Kelly chose the appropriate venue ("Happy Birthday to me!Now please, please, please eat a cupcake!"),or the right approach, but it seemed to me like her intentions were coming from a genuine place.
Allie spends the rest of the episode defending both her health (by going to Dean & Deluca for smoked salmon and asparagus--"See,I eat!") and her ability to let Kelly's comments roll off her back (I wasn't as convinced of this one...).She reasons that if her agency,One Model Management, thought she was too skinny, they'd let her know. She'd be losing jobs instead of landing them, and Kelly is just an insecure person who doesn't know diddly about the modeling business, right? As the always-sensitive Olivia so tactfully puts it,"This is w88手机版登录fashion.We can't have Shamu coming down the runway!"
What do you guys think? Is Allie too skinny? Is she putting forth an impossible-to-achieve ideal,as Kelly accused her of at the episode's end?Or is she just your standard model with a slim frame and a careful tendency to watch what she eats?Should she continue booking jobs at her current weight,or would you prefer to see her pack on a few pounds before continuing her career as a mannequin?Discuss!
