Last night onThe Real Housewives of Orange County,Gretchen's guy Slade brought up marriage at dinner in front of her two friends.Immediately, she announced to the entire table,"I don't want to get married—I want a lease." It was kinda rude,as I'm sure Slade was really hurt by it (not that I care a ton for him, either, but this happened after a long day of her harping on him).
At that same dinner conversation, she called him "Chubba Wubba" because he'd ordered something highly caloric.(He defended his order, saying he needed the carbs from bike riding.)
Next Gretchen explained her lease idea to the camera: "People get complacent in marriages." She said she'd like a lease so that she could take him back for someone better if Slade got fat or lazy or unsatisfactory in some other way.She thinks a lease would keep alive the "spark." She also holds that knowing someone only had a lease onyouwould keepyouon your toes: "You know they might trade you in for something better. So you keep your weight off."
An arrangement like this would make anyone insecure.Except Gretchen.
She was not my favorite person on this episode. And I don't like the lease idea at all.I'm an all-or-nothing person. Why not just date, with no contract at all?
Would you rather a lease on your guy,as an alternative to marriage?Did you watch the show last night? What do you think of Gretchen and Slade?__
