I was scheduled to run my first 5K this past weekend.I had registered for it nearly two months ago,but it sort of just crept up on me.Initially I thought it was on April 16,but I was wrong;and likeMargarita mentioned,I'd been slacking off on the training for a few weeks. But I figured I would do it anyway--all that strength training on theBody by Glamourplan has me feeling empowered, what can I say?On Friday I had a great workout and I ate well.I also made sure to get a good night's sleep,so I was in a positive state of mind. But then I woke up Saturday morning and it was raining.I think it was even hailing at one point. The weather was perfect for staying inside and curling up to a good book--not for running outside!Would you go running in that kind of weather?I wouldn't…
At least not a couple of months ago.But things have changed.I'm trying to be consistent andstick to my goals--and running theING Philadelphia Half-Marathonin September is one of them.这是只有5个月。So I got up,got dressed and ran my race.Conditions were far from ideaI,but I survived.I didn't have a waterproof jacket on,so I was soaked and pretty miserable at first. There were definitely a few times when I contemplated turning around, but I didn't.I remembered what a friend said to me in an e-mail a couple of weeks ago about races: "They are almost entirely mental. That is,you're not out there doing battle with the course, but with yourself." It kept me going when I wanted to quit.I also think this is true of all of my shape-up goals.Do you agree? Is your greatest battle in meeting your goals in your mind?
Here I am with my running buddies.Note: My brother handed me that jacket as I was crossing the finish line--I'm soaked underneath!
I slowed down to a walk a couple of times (my fault for not following my running schedule!) but I finished running. It helped that some friends were running it with me,so I knew I would see them at the finish line.I think I'm going to register for another 5K for next month. But this time,I'll train properly for it.And I don't plan on turning around if it's raining.
